Detroit Marathon
I am currently in training for the Detroit Free Press Marathon, scheduled to be run Sunday, October 23, 2005.  I am running as a member of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training, and I am dedicating the race to the memory of Jim Franklin.

On this page you'll find information about how to sponsor me for the Detroit Marathon.

The Pertinent Info

Here it is, my Team in Training fundraising website.

The URL is: "www.active.com/donate/tntmi/dougmckenna" and if you'd like to cut and paste that onto your own journals, or send it to friends and family for me, that would be fantastic.

I am running the Detroit Marathon in honor of Jim Franklin, my father-in-law who died of leukemia last October. I have saved all the entries that I made about Jim in the "Memories" section of my online journal, and you're welcome to read through the three weeks from September 21, 2004 when he was diagnosed (after thinking he had mono) to October 7, 2004 when he died.

Memories of Jim via LiveJournal.

I'm trying to raise $100 per mile, which works out to be $2,620.00. That's a lot of money, but I would love it if you could help out. You're not giving money to me, you're giving money to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training, which is a non-profit organization that fundraises specifically for cancer research and treatment of blood cancers, such as the one Jim died of.

If you skip buying one cup of coffee per day, or one or two beers per week between now and the race, you could sponsor me for a half mile, or a full mile, or a couple of miles. Your money goes toward a good cause, and your donation is tax deductible. It would mean a lot to me, and it will be a great tribute to Jim's memory if I can meet this fundraising goal.

Thank you, in advance, for your support--both financial and emotional--as I train for this race.

Please help me honor Jim by meeting my fundraising goal.
