Sky on Fire, by Doug McKenna

Like the fort on the hill
these walls in my mind
keep all the people and thoughts
from entering in

When my soul is a desert
and the well has run dry
the sands of my life fall before me
their truth is a lie

And you are the person who helped me to stand
like a doe helps a baby on wobbling legs
And you are the person I'll never understand

Mist from the garden, fruit from the trees
a blossoming flower is all that I need
to help and uphold me
and take me to that place

The people surround me
I'm lost here again
but the precious stones found in a store
pale to their skin

Have you ever seen the sky on fire?
Or tasted someone else's tears?
Can you tell me what it feels like
will you share with me your fears?
